River Clean-Up

The Mid and Senior Hi Youth at FPC have committed to one service project per month.  This month it was to clean up the Riverfront near the chruch.

It was amazing to all how much trash there was on the riverfront they easily bagged up over 100 pounds of trash. We are grateful to all our youth and adults that worked so diligently to help beautify the Riverfront.

have a Christian Halloween

Being a Christian is just like a Pumpkin

This was passed along to me by a friend (thanks Kelly).  What a great way to refocus the message of Halloween as a reminder to remember how Jesus works in our lives.  When carving your Halloween pumpkins each year remember to Let your light shine!

First, God picks you from the pumpkin patch and brings you in from the field. The Bible says He selects us out of the world. We are in the world, but no longer of the world.

He then washes all the “dirt” off the outside that we received from being around all the other pumpkins. All the outside influences of our former life must be cleaned up. Old things are passed away and all things are become new.

Then, He carefully removes all the “yucky stuff” called “sin” out from the inside. He carefully removes all those seeds of doubt, hate, greed, and fear.

Then He carves a new smiling face.

Now we are going to light this candle inside.  This pumpkin now reflects the light from inside out. So too, when Jesus, who is called the Son of Light, lives inside of us, He shines through our life for all to see. We can let His light reflect through us to reveal His presence.

“Let your light so shine before men that they may be able to see your good works and glorify your Father, who is in heaven.”

So you see, we Christians are really like this pumpkin! We will never be the same with Jesus inside of us.

The Pumpkin Prayer

{cut off top of pumpkin}
Lord, open my mind so I can learn new things about you.

{remove innards}
Remove the things in my life that don’t please you.
Forgive the wrong things I do and help me to forgive others.

{cut open eyes}
Open my eyes to see the beauty you’ve made in the world around me.

{cut out nose}
I’m sorry for the times I’ve turned my nose at the good food you provide.

{cut out mouth}
Let everything I say please You.

{light the candle}
Lord, help me show your light to others through the things I do. Amen

The Christian Pumpkin Poem

{You can even use this as a guide on carving your own pumpkin}

I am a Jack O’ Lantern
My light will shine so bright

For I am a Christian pumpkin
My symbols tell what’s right.

My nose is like the cross
on which our Savior died

To set us free from sin
We need no longer hide.

My mouth is like a fish
The whole wide world to show

That Christians live in this house
And love their Savior so!

The story starts at Christmas
My eyes are like the star

That shone on Baby Jesus
And wise men saw from far

My color it is orange
Just like the big bright sun

That rose on Easter Day
Along with Gods’ own Son.

And so on Halloween
Let’s set our pumpkins out

And tell the trick or treaters
What Gods’ love is all about!

Night of Joy 2011 | FPC Youth

We had the awesome experience of attending Night of Joy at Walt Disney World in Orlando again this year.  I was particularly excited because it was my very first time going.  What a blast!  Concerts, fun, food, rides…Didn’t make it back to my house until 4am.  Thank you, Kelly, for the awesome video of the photos and video clips that were taken on our trip.  Cannot wait until next year to go again.

Pool Party at the Hartwig Home

Today after church 14 of our children and youth along with 10 parents and adults enjoyed a pizza lunch and pool party at Bob and Ann Hartwig’s home.  Such a good time before our Friends Wednesday kicks off!

Camp – day 5, last day

The kids had a great time at camp this year.  We met up for the final presentation at Camp Montgomery at 4pm on Friday.  We saw a slideshow, listened to the kids sing new songs they learned and heard their stories of a great week.
